Wow. This summer went by waaaaay too fast. I can’t believe I move back into my dorm in just a few hours. I know I probably say this every single year, but this summer was the best one yet. I traveled to sooo many places and accomplished so many things. My heart is so full and so happy (and ready to move back in with Kacey, Maddie, and Drew 😉 ).
So, I wanted to write this blog post just to share some of my memories that made this summer so fun and special. In May, I accepted a job as a photographer at the JCPenny Portrait Studio. That was my first studio job and was a lot different than shooting on location. I soon learned what I liked to shoot (kids and seniors) and what I didn’t (groups of 15+ people, just a little stressful cramped in a small studio space…). Lifetouch is an amazing company and I lovedddd my experience there this summer.
May was also when JTP started to become crazy busy. Right when I moved back home for the summer, I got the opportunity to photograph my high school’s Grand March before Prom! I dragged my two best friends with me and had an AMAZING time photographing all the couples and groups in their beautiful dresses and suits. Not too long after that, my first ever JTP senior session happened. Allie was one of my spokesmodels this year and I am soooo thankful for her. Her session was SO much fun and really was the beginning of it all! Without her and my other gorgeous spokesmodels (Denasia, Emmy, Erin, and Courtney) I wouldn’t be this successful in my first year. THANK YOU. Here are a few of my favorite images from each of their sessions.
June and July were probably my favorite months of the summer. In June, Kacey and I ran The Color Run for the second time. This time through GLITTER! I shot more senior sessions including Amelia’s, which is on the top of my list for favorite senior sessions. She totally ROCKED her senior photos.
In June, I also traveled to Pittsburgh for a few days with my two best friends from Akron, Maddie and Drew. We packed a whole lot of plans into three short days. I came home exhausted but with a full heart. We went to Kennywood (where I rode EVERY roller-coaster…still can’t believe that happened), the Pittsburgh Zoo, lots of shopping and yummy eating, Dave & Busters and so much more.
On June 24th, my dad and I drove 8 hours all the way to Fredericksburg, VA for one of my all time favorite memories of the summer. Erika Lynn, a photographer that I’ve followed for almost a year now and a HUGE inspiration in my life held a giveaway for a FREE 4 hour mentoring session. I almost didn’t enter but oh am I so glad I did. Meeting Erika and learning from her changed my business and my photography forever. Erika has such a big heart when it comes to teaching, she is an amazing photographer, and can make anyone feel gorgeous. Her work blows me away. We talked all about contracts, marketing clients, branding, lighting, posing and SO much more. Then we went Downtown and spent about an hour shooting and getting some gorgeous images. THANK YOU SO MUCH ERIKA!! You guys can follow Erika on Instagram @erikalynnphoto or check out her website www.photographybyerikalynn.com
In July, my family traveled down to Carolina Beach, NC for a week. If you know me I love love love the ocean and Carolina Beach was always somewhere I wanted to travel to. After three years of convincing my family, I found myself sitting on my oceanfront balcony listening to the waves and seeing dolphins out on the water. The first day back from vacation was the day I photographed my first wedding. That day still feels like a dream. This is my all time favorite day of the entire summer because it was a day I officially became I wedding photographer and it holds a special place in my heart. I have been dreaming about photographing a wedding since I started high school and to this day I can’t believe I accomplished that this early in my career. Emily, thank you for working with me and putting your faith in me and being my first JTP bride! I don’t think I can ever thank you enough for giving me this opportunity. Hope you and Austin are enjoying your cruise! Now, we finally come to August. In August, my best friend Kacey and I traveled down to Columbus for the day to see one of our favorite bands from the UK, Lawson, open for another one of our favorite bands Sheppard. Let me tell you 4 years was soooo worth the wait. It was incredible to see them playing on stage no more than 10 feet in front of us. We also saw 5 Seconds of Summer with our friends Brooke and Ashley last week and that concert was amazing.
August was the busiest month for Jenna Therese Photography, I had three senior sessions, an adorable family session and a sister session. This summer I photographed over 10 senior sessions!! Whaaat?!
I am so incredibly thankful to everyone who has ever wanted me to photograph them, or who have just been supporting me through this journey. I am so excited for my sophomore year to start at the University of Akron as well as JTP’s first fall season!! I only have five out of twelve fall dates left and I am so excited for all the fun things ahead. As much as I am sad to see another amazing summer end, I am so looking forward to everything this year brings. Happy Wednesday friends!! xx
